Title

Kentucky Wetlands

Description

This colored sketch from page 13 of the Louisville Zoo Botanical Master Plan shows a marsh area with lily pads and flowers in the foreground and a muskrat on a log beyond the water. “Cattails, pickerelweed, duck weed, water lilies and arrowhead all grow in shallow water, while wild iris, meadow beauty and joe-pye weed all thrive in moist soils at the water’s edge. On nearby higher ground, sweetbay magnolia, red maple and river birch all do well. The grandeur of ornamental rhubarb and the varied textures of miscanthus, ligularia and royal fern will create an exotic jungle look in habitats re-creating tropical characteristics.”
