Title

Tropical Forest section and inset drawings

Description

Pencil sketch of a section of the walkway, understory planting, and wetlads of the tropical forest exhibit, which was colored for use as an illustration in the publication. Also included are five plant detail drawings used as insets in the booklet that include: a a horse chestnut leaf and fruits, pawpaw leaves, saucer magnolia leaves and flower, and two other unidentified plants. “Exotic textures and plant forms characterized by compound and large leaves, such as Kentucky Coffee tree, horse chestnut, pawpaw and saucer magnolia, will immerse visitors in a tropical forest setting as they encounter a variety of animal habitats. Ground plane plantings of ferns, hostas and daylilies, along with native ginger and huckleberry, will create a rich layer of understory vegetation to further enhance the image of a tropical environment and provide a sense of anticipation and mystery to the Zoo experience.” A colored version of the section is zoo_lou_sk_08.
