Title

Tropical Forest section

Description

This colored sketch from page 14 of the Louisville Zoo Botanical Master Plan illustrates a typical section through a walkway in the tropical forest area of the zoo. Pedestrians view understory plantings and the adjacent wetlands. “Exotic textures and plant forms characterized by compound and large leaves, such as Kentucky Coffee tree, horse chestnut, pawpaw and saucer magnolia, will immerse visitors in a tropical forest setting as they encounter a variety of animal habitats. Ground plane plantings of ferns, hostas and daylilies, along with native ginger and huckleberry, will create a rich layer of understory vegetation to further enhance the image of a tropical environment and provide a sense of anticipation and mystery to the Zoo experience.” This sketch is a colored version of the pencil sketch zoo_lou_sk_02.
